C8 – Inviting Qianqian

“Qianqian, are you available?” Ye Hao inquired.

“Yes,” replied Lee Qianqian.

“Could you help me with science subjects?” Ye Hao asked, feeling a bit embarrassed.

“Of course!” Lee Qianqian nodded with a smile, “Where should we study?”Updat𝒆d fr𝒐m nov𝒆lb(i)n.c(o)m

“There’s a nearby KFC,” Ye Hao suggested after a brief pause.

“When should we start?”

“Could you teach me for about half an hour every evening?” Ye Hao initially considered an hour but hesitated, thinking about Lee Qianqian’s safety as a girl returning home late.

“Then let’s make it a two-hour session each night,” Lee Qianqian agreed.

“Isn’t that too long?” Ye Hao widened his eyes, concerned. “Won’t your parents be worried?”

“It’s similar to studying there at night,” Lee Qianqian responded with a slight smile. “Let’s begin at six o’clock tonight. I need to go home for dinner.”

Without giving Ye Hao a chance to decline, Lee Qianqian left.

Watching her depart, Ye Hao wondered, “Could Lee Qianqian be interested in me?”

However, he immediately chided himself, thinking, “A beauty like Lee Qianqian wouldn’t be interested in someone like me. I shouldn’t dwell on it.”

With this in mind, Ye Hao pushed aside his musings.

“I must put in the effort,” he encouraged himself.

Upon returning home, Ye Hao found both his parents present.

“Hao, come here. I have something to discuss,” Ye Zhiguo said in a hushed tone.

Though puzzled, Ye Hao obediently took a seat and inquired, “Dad, what’s on your mind?”

“You saved Lee Qianqian’s life three days ago?” Ye Zhiguo studied Ye Hao’s expression as he asked.

“Yes,” Ye Hao admitted, feeling there was no reason to deny it.

“You’re quite daring,” Ye Zhiguo remarked in a serious tone after hearing Ye Hao’s confirmation.

“Dad, considering the situation, I had to help her.”

Shaking his head gently, Ye Zhiguo continued, “Do you realize whom you confronted?”

“Who?”

“He’s Bai Si, the leader of a small gang in Jiangnan City,” Ye Zhiguo explained gravely. “As soon as Lee Qianqian returned home, Mr. Lee reported to the police. They arrested Bai Si when they arrived; he was unconscious.”

“Unconscious?” Ye Hao was taken aback.

“Yes. Bai Si remained unconscious for a day before regaining consciousness. He suffered a moderate concussion,” Ye Zhiguo informed, studying Ye Hao with astonishment. “How did you become so strong?”

Ye Hao scratched his head, unsure how to respond.

“In the future, do your best to avoid getting involved in such matters,” Ye Zhiguo cautioned.

“Okay,” Ye Hao responded obediently.

“Don’t scold Hao,” Guo Xiu interjected at the right moment. “How did your exam go?”

“I did well.”

“Did you estimate your score?”

“Around seven hundred points.” Ye Hao’s statement left people astounded.

“What did you just say?” Guo Xiu was taken aback.

“About seven hundred points,” Ye Hao reiterated.

Guo Xiu’s expression grew serious upon hearing this. She advised, “Hao, it’s alright if your score isn’t high, but you mustn’t resort to cheating.”

Ye Hao comprehended Guo Xiu’s message. He replied, “Mom, I’m not foolish. Cheating is futile now, especially for the college entrance exam.”

“Then how do you believe you’ll score 700 points?” Guo Xiu knew Ye Hao’s academic performance.

“Mom, haven’t you seen me study day and night?” Ye Hao smiled. “If I don’t try my best, I won’t be able to face myself.”

“But your score shouldn’t have suddenly skyrocketed like this.”

“It means I have a natural talent, but I’ve neglected my studies for many years.”

At six o’clock, Ye Hao took the fifty yuan and headed to a lottery shop a bit farther away.

Since Lee Qianqian had lectured him, he needed to treat her to something to eat.

However, Ye Hao didn’t have much money to spare.

Upon reaching the lottery shop, Ye Hao retrieved a stack of lottery tickets and swiftly perused them.

Ye Hao was aware of the time limit of his X-ray Vision, so he examined the tickets rapidly.

When Ye Hao realized the tenth ticket in his hand was worth fifty yuan, he casually returned it. Subsequently, he turned his attention to another batch of tickets.

In this manner, Ye Hao went through five consecutive stacks of tickets, yet he couldn’t find any tickets that yielded more than a hundred yuan.

This situation annoyed Ye Hao quite a bit.

Gradually, a sense of weariness overcame Ye Hao.

“Not good, the X-ray Vision is reaching its limit.” Ye Hao swiftly procured another stack of lottery tickets.

Upon reaching the twelfth lottery ticket, a look of astonishment filled Ye Hao’s eyes.

A sum of three thousand yuan!

Ye Hao hadn’t anticipated his luck striking again.

Amongst this stack of lottery tickets, one concealed a prize of three thousand yuan.

Passing twenty yuan to the boss, Ye Hao said, “Boss, I’d like to purchase this lottery ticket.”

The boss, taking the money, beamed and commented, “Give it a scratch and see if you can strike gold.”

“I’m sure I’ll hit the jackpot.” Ye Hao affirmed with confidence.

The boss chuckled, unaffected by the claim.

If everyone could win the lottery, the General Administration of Sports would have been out of business long ago.

After removing the thin covering, Ye Hao exclaimed excitedly, “I’ve won!”

The boss inquired, “What’s the prize amount?”

“Boss, how much can I redeem with this ticket?” Ye Hao didn’t immediately relinquish the lottery ticket to the boss.

The boss stepped closer to Ye Hao, noting, “Anything less than ten thousand RMB.”

Upon glimpsing the gorilla image, Ye Hao’s face registered surprise, “Three thousand yuan?”

The boss’s words attracted other ticket buyers to gather around and admire the ticket with envy.

After meticulously validating the ticket, the boss directly handed three thousand yuan to Ye Hao.

“Thanks, boss. I’ll be back for more tickets next time,” Ye Hao expressed courteously before departing.

Would Ye Hao still come?

The answer was negative.

If he managed to win the lottery again, the boss would undoubtedly become suspicious.

Upon Ye Hao’s arrival at KFC, he spotted the girl in white standing by the entrance.

There she stood serenely, akin to a beautiful lotus.

“Ye Hao,” a charming smile illuminated her face as she caught sight of him.

“Sorry for making you wait,” Ye Hao expressed with a hint of embarrassment.

Lee Qianqian’s voice was gentle as she replied, “No worries, I just got here. Let’s head in.”

Opting for a table away from the window, they settled down. Ye Hao inquired, “What beverage would you like?”

“Coke.”

Ye Hao proceeded to order two glasses of Coke before returning to his seat.

“Due to my limited foundation in mathematics, I’d like to begin with the math curriculum of the first year in high school,” Ye Hao’s statement left Lee Qianqian taken aback.

With the college entrance exams merely two months away, Ye Hao was suggesting learning math concepts from the first year of high school?

Did he truly have sufficient time?

Naturally, Lee Qianqian wouldn’t vocalize such concerns. She assured, “Feel free to ask me about anything you don’t comprehend.”

Grasping the fundamentals was paramount in mastering mathematics.

This was the very reason why Ye Hao hadn’t dedicated himself to studying diligently over the past couple of weeks.

Ye Hao’s pace of reading was remarkably swift. Periodically, he’d pose questions, and Lee Qianqian responded to each with patience.

In less than two hours, Ye Hao had completed the study of first-year high school math.

Naturally, he had absorbed the knowledge, but full mastery remained a work in progress!
