Chapter 15: Unexpected Situation!

I didn't have to lift my gaze to tell who walked in as I have been hearing this voice most frequently after my rebirth.

The smell of caffeine profoundly fermented, making me distracted from the files I have been reading. And since I have lost my focus, I thought it was better to have a break.

Lifting my gaze, I saw the beautiful maid pouring coffee into a cup and arranging some sweet cookies on a small plate before presenting it in front of me.

Since I nearly take no sugar my whole day, I have ordered Lara to bake these special cookies so I can maintain my sugar level.

Calvulative indeed.

The reason why Lara didn't take her to leave even after serving the beverage was because she undoubtedly had something to report.

Hooking the handle of the cup I took the first sip of the freshly brewed coffee before I asked in a much calmer tone.

"Tell me."

Leaning back on the chair with my eyes closed in bliss, I heard the maid speaking about a troubling matter I never expected to face this soon.

"Sources informed recently that someone has infiltrated the Directory and tried to steal your information. Not once but twice."

A frown inevitably formed on my forehead as I heard the unexpected piece of news.

The Directory which Lara spoke about, is a vast storage space that stores real-time information about every student who has entered Pristine Academy.

Whether they are newcomers or those who already Graduated from the Academy, once they lay their hands on the Appraising Stone during the orientation, every student gets their information recorded in the Directory.

But I haven't even mentioned the main problem yet.

The Directory is a magical space created by a group of Witches. The person whose name once registered in the Directory will lose the freedom to keep anything private.

Like if I unlock a new skill at this moment, the Directory would immediately register it below my skill tab. If I overload myself with mana in any uncertain future then there will be [Mana Drunk] tag would be added beside my Condition tab.

All in all, the Directory is a place that can doom various powerful beings who have been striving in the Hunters and other prominent fields.

Then why there was a need to create a Directory in the first place which can even kill the strongest of humans who graduated from the Pristine Academy?

Simple. They just wanted insurance.

Many superhumans turn their back on humanity and start to walk on a path of Darkness.

Once the Upper Council declares them to be a criminal, the Pristine Academy takes out their detailed portfolio and screw them in the most efficient way.

Of course, those who weren't a part of the Academy also get on the evil path but for that, the Council has already prepared several units.

But I am not concerned about anyone else rather than myself.

In the main storyline, I was the one who tried to infiltrate the Directory to steal the Hero's information and destroy him from the core. I didn't succeed that doesn't mean I failed entirely.

But the problem was, that I wasn't the one trying to attain this treachery this time. It's someone else trying to spy on me.

Is it the protagonist?

But that would be absurd to think that the righteous hero would drop to such a trick to defeat me. But last night he did act out of his way from the plot.

"Is it the same person or two different identities tried this criminality?"

Collecting myself, I asked after I took my second sip which was a lot colder and mild than before. Certainly, mood affects taste buds.

"It's unclear, Young master."

A sigh leaked out as I was expecting such an answer. If everything had been made easy in the first place, then this story wouldn't have been prolonged for eighteen volumes.

Putting my empty cup back, I saw Lara filling back it up with a hesitant look blended into her gaze.

"Anything else?"

The maid stood back up with a strange expression as she took out something from her uniform and extended it toward me.

"It was delivered by Dimensional Beast this morning."

It was a small envelope which undoubtedly was a letter but the fascinating fact was the content written inside.

Tearing the paper which had the name 'Duchess Valarie' written as the sender's name, I read the letter and felt another headache rising fervently.
