Spiritual Recovery: Gamification of Reality

Chapter 24

Chapter 24

“Sorry to trouble you. If there’s any news or if you find it, please let me know.”

“I will. Take care, Mr. Xu.”

Xu Bai waved his hand and walked out of the pharmacy behind him. He walked toward the car parked by the roadside.

“Get in the car.”

He closed the door.

When Xu Bai went to work, he took out the medicinal ingredients to make the Vitality Replenishing Pill from his pocket. He looked at the list of medicinal ingredients he needed, and the only thing left on the list that he needed was the Dragon Heart Grass. He had most of the ingredients, but some of them were out of stock. It might take about a week for them to arrive.

Xu Bai carelessly let his police badge fall off. The other party immediately said that he would follow Xu Bai’s request and leave a portion for Xu Bai to collect the goods.

‘But…’

There was only one type of medicinal herb called “Dragon Heart Grass”. That afternoon, Xu Bai went to five large Chinese medicine pharmacies in Feng City but could not find it.

“That’s not right.”

Four of the five pharmacies said that they had never heard of this “Dragonheart Grass” ever. Xu Bai came to the conclusion that the pill formula given by the System was a f*cking unaccustomed pill formula.

With all the technology of the Federation, it was impossible to create the System. In that case, this System was very likely a product of advanced technology from another world.

‘So…’

Holding the pill formulas of another world and looking for consumables in this world sounded almost impossible. But Xu Bai did not give up. He went to the fifth pharmacy to ask.

This was a Chinese medicine pharmacy called Tongren. The person sitting in the pharmacy was an old Chinese doctor with snow-white hair and a long beard. One look and one could tell that he was an old Chinese doctor with immense experience.

Xu Bai showed his ID to the white-bearded old Chinese doctor. He asked if the doctor knew about the Dragon Heart Grass, and surprisingly, the doctor actually knew.

‘But…’

The white-bearded doctor frowned and expressed that this kind of Dragon Heart Grass only grew between the cliffs and required snakes to harvest. It also needed a full day for it to form a perfect heart-shaped Dragon Heart Grass. It had already been out of stock on the market twenty years ago.

Dragon Heart Grass was mostly used as a supplement, and it wasn’t considered a common ingredient. In fact, it was very rare. Therefore, it was normal for many Chinese physicians not to know about this herb.

Xu Bai’s heart dropped when he heard that. He began to wonder if he should apply for leave and go to the old forest to look for it himself. He also considered not doing that as he was not interested in alchemy.

However, the doctor thought for a moment and said that he had an old friend who was also looking for the Dragon Heart Grass, but wasn’t sure if he had found it.

Xu Bai’s eyes lit up. He immediately asked if the doctor could help him contact this friend, to which the doctor happily agreed. It might have been Xu Bai’s charm that the doctor agreed, but more likely that he was working for the government. Everyone knew that those who ran medical centers never wanted to get on the wrong side of the authorities.

Xu Bai was also well aware of this, so after the doctor agreed, he did not press the doctor to contact his friend immediately. Instead, he left his contact number and left.

Half an hour later.

Xu Bai dragged the bags of vegetables and meats that his uncle and aunt had given him back home.

He opened the fridge and saw that it was already full of food. He sighed and took out the vegetables that he had given her a few days ago. He had planned to cook them tonight.

After Xu Bai took out the dishes, he turned around and walked to a corner of the living room. He looked at the two portraits hanging on the wall and took out two incense sticks from the side. He lit them and put them in the incense burner. He looked at his parents’ photos and sighed. “Please let my little sister get better.”

As he spoke, Xu Bai lowered his head and looked at the small table. In front of his parents’ photos, there were two teeth that looked like they had been dry for about a year.

Xu Bai raised his head and looked at the photo of his parents on the wall. “After the New Year, I’ll take two of his teeth to pay my respects to you.”

Xu Bai turned around and walked to the kitchen to prepare dinner. These two teeth did not belong to him or his sister, Xu Wei. Similarly, they did not belong to his parents. The reason why these two teeth were there was a simple one.

The teeth belonged to the culprit who had killed Xu Bai’s parents five years ago and caused his sister to fall into a coma when the entire family went on a trip. The family trip he should have gone on. He had actually met an injured white fox the day they were supposed to leave that happened to trigger a mission. Because he wanted to complete the mission, Xu Bai told his parents and sister that he would meet them there later.

In the end…

Office of the Deputy Director of Homeland Security Operations.

“Wait a minute.”

Anya raised her head and looked at Su Bancheng. She frowned and said, “What did you say? Do you think the missing driver was killed by Xu Bai? That’s impossible.”

Su Bancheng looked at the file in Anya’s hand. “The driver suddenly disappeared after the incident. Is this true?”

Anya threw the dossier on the table in front of her and looked at Su Bancheng. “Do you know how many people go missing in the Federation every day?”

Su Bancheng shook his head helplessly. “Team Leader An, there’s no point in being so stubborn. I don’t make wild accusations.”

Anya sneered. “Fine, I’ll listen to Deputy Supervisor Su’s opinion.”

“Xu Bai was too calm both before and after dealing with this matter.”

Anya frowned. Foll𝑜ow current novÊls on nov3lb((in).(com)

Su Bancheng leaned against the chair behind him and looked at Anya. “Before you came, I had already investigated everything that needed to be investigated. I also met with the agent who handled this case back then. Do you know how he remembered Xu Bai?”

In the words of the case investigator, after Xu Bai arrived at the scene and witnessed the tragic scene, he was only absent-minded for all of ten seconds before he recovered.

In the subsequent investigation, he did not cry or express any emotion like someone in his situation should have. Instead, he calmly accepted the driver’s compensation and the insurance company’s compensation. Throughout the entire case, Xu Bai displayed extraordinary calm and rationality. Even the driver could not believe it.

Anya frowned. “That’s because Xu Bai needs money to treat his sister.”

Su Bancheng nodded. “Yes, that agent said the same thing. At first, he didn’t believe it. He thought that Xu Bai wouldn’t use all the money to save his sister after getting the money, but he didn’t expect…”

Anya couldn’t help but shake her head. “So what are you trying to say? This just shows that Xu Bai loves his sister very much, doesn’t it?”

Su Bancheng nodded. Su Bancheng changed the topic. “So, Agent Xu, who loves his family so much, do you think he will let go of the murderer who killed his parents?”

Anya: “…”
