Chapter 2: Yggdrasil Ⅰ *Edited*

[Welcome, to Yggdrasil.]

I heard a feminine voice in my head. And a screen appeared in front of me.

...

[Please choose a race.]

[Hummonid]

[Demi-Human]

[Heteromorphic]

...

On the screen, I saw three options and chose the third.

The third option was chosen because only Heteromorphic players were permitted to join the guild of Ainz Ooal Gown.

...

[Please select a race.]

[Angel]

[Brain Eater]

[Demon]

[Doppelganger]

[Golem]

[Nephilim]

[Skeleton]

[Vampire]

..

..

...

The previous screen disappeared, and a new one became visible. On it, different Heteromorphic races were listed.

I have been thinking about which race to choose. In the end, I decided to choose Doppelganger. Because it would allow me to play as multiple races. Also, when I start to cultivate, I can mix all the different bloodlines of different races to make a new bloodline. But there is a problem with this approach.

In Yggdrasil, everything is balanced; to not give any unfair advantage to anyone. According to my memories, Doppelgangers can play as different races, and each of those races can have their own classes and skills. But a Doppelganger can only show about 80% of the true power of a level 100 character. Also, it would be a real pain to level up each race to level 100.

Despite all of these, I still chose Doppelganger. I can solve the first issue; by using a World Item called the Ouroboros. I can ask the Devs to remove this restriction by using that. To improve my chances of combining various bloodlines into a new one, I'll try to level up as many different races and classes as I can in the twelve years I have left.

The race selection screen disappeared, and a new screen appeared, prompting me to choose my spawn location.

...

[Please choose the location for spawn]

[Muspelheim]

[Helheim]

[Niflheim]

...

I chose Helheim as my spawn location.

I chose "Momonga" as my IGN (In-Game Name) and customized my character accordingly. After finalizing everything, darkness shrouded my figure, and as I opened my eyes, I found myself standing in front of an inn.

The medieval architecture of the inn and the surrounding buildings intrigued me. Now, my character stood at a towering height of 7 feet, with three claws on each hand and three indentations on my face serving as eyes and a mouth.

Curious about my new form, I took a few steps to get a feel for the movement.

'This feels too real,'

I thought as I moved around, getting a sense of my new character in the virtual world.

After a while, I stopped and gazed toward the distant swamps.

"System, show my current status."

"Hmm, my first order of business should be to max out my racial class; after that, I should start working on my different builds as well."

Feeling determined, I set my sights on the distant swamps and began making my way toward them. After a few minutes of running, I arrived there, only to find them teeming with skeletons. As soon as they spotted me, they rushed to attack. Luckily, these were beginner monsters, making it relatively easy for me to dispatch them.

[Classes Available: Martial Artist, Striker]

I chose the Martial Artist job class and increased my racial level to level 3.

[Level 1 -> Level 3]

My journey in Yggdrasil continued, and I found myself deeply immersed in the game, playing for seven hours straight. Eventually, I decided to log out and rest.

The next morning, I started my day with exercise and a hearty breakfast, eager to dive back into the game and continue my adventures as "Momonga."

Over the following days, I found myself fully immersed in the world of Yggdrasil. I dedicated most of my waking hours to the game, embarking on quests, and engaging in battles.

My main priority was clearto reach level 100 and find the early members of Ainz Ooal Gown.

Nine's Own Goal was a clan of heteromorphics. It served as the spiritual precursor to the guild that would later become Ainz Ooal Gown. It was founded when hunting heteromorphic beings was all the rage in the early days of YGGDRASIL.

Heteromorphics were repeatedly hunted down by other players to claim certain strong job classes, which required PKing to a certain number of heteromorphic beings for entry.

It was formed by Touch Me, and its initial members were Touch Me, Nishikienrai, Wish III, Warrior Takemikazuchi, Momonga, etc.

"I need to be a member of the initial clan."

I kept grinding levels, and after a few months, I was already a level 65 player. I had already found the Ouroboros and was ready to request the new racial class. When it came to finding the initial members of the clan, I didn't have much luck.

For my job classes, I had Martial Artist(Level 15), Martial Expert(Level 10), Martial King(Level 5), and Fighter(Level 10). I had already maxed out my racial classes as well.

I decided to make my first build to be a hand-to-hand fighter. Now that I was at level 65, I had 30 levels to allocate to job classes. I had to save 5 levels for my racial class that I was going to request from the devs.

"System, show me all the hidden classes for hand-to-hand fighter-type build."

I was eating dinner at the time and decided to ask the system about the hidden classes.

A player in Yggdrasil can obtain job classes in a variety of ways, including by performing specific acts such as hitting an undead or by completing specified quests.

All of my job classes were not weak by any means, but I wanted something more powerful, like a class; that Ulbert Alain Odle had known as the "World Disaster,"

I wanted something similar to that class.

...

["Master, I have found some powerful job classes for a hand-to-hand fighter."]

[1. Eternal Fistlord]

[2. Martial Soverign]

[3. Combat Oracle]

[4. Celestial Brawler]

After going through all of them, I decided on the Celestial Brawler and Combat Oracle. One of these classes focuses on offense, while the other focuses on utility.

"Both of them are acquired through quests."

Both of them had prerequisites if one wanted to learn them. I quickly ate dinner and entered the VR Pod.

~Scene Change~

I spawned in a dimly lit cave. This was my temporary base where I stored all my loot. I quickly exited the cave and ventured toward the desolate wasteland of Helheim.

The initial requirement for obtaining the Celestial Brawler job class was to first get the brawler class.

To obtain the brawler class, the player must kill 300 mobs in a single strike, and the mobs must be of the same or higher level than the player.

"This will be a difficult requirement to fulfill."

After traveling for a few minutes, I entered a swamp that was teaming with the undead. I didn't bother with the lower-level undead and kept searching for undead of level 65 or higher.

It took a bit of searching, but I finally found an area where the undead of level 65 and higher spawned.

I approached the lone undead, a level 66 Crypt Lord.

He was nearly eight feet tall and was dressed in ragged, antique garments that once spoke of grandeur but have since faded and torn with time. His skeletal frame is adorned with armor-like exoskeleton plates. Atop his bony skull, a crown of twisted thorns encircles his sunken eye sockets, glowing with an eerie light.

I snuck behind him and attacked him with a punch while activating some skills I had.

As I punched it, the Crypt Lord disappeared into fragments of light while drooping some loot.

[Congratulation for Defeating a level 66 Crypt Lord! You have received 7,500 EXP]

It just took one punch because I had already activated all of my buffs from my various classes before battling it. I picked up the loot and kept looking for another undead.

"Finally!"

[Congratulation for Defeating a level 73 Crypt Lord! You have received 10,000 EXP]

It took 2 days to defeat all the required mobs to unlock the brawler job class. It took this long because, many times, it would take more than one strike to kill the undead.

[Classes Available: Ki Master, Brawler, Striker, ....]

I chose the Brawler and quickly leveled it up to level 10 using all the Available Levels I had gathered while killing the undead.

After selecting the class, I continued to kill the undead to raise my Brawler level to 15. It took some time, but I eventually got it up to level 15.

Doing this fulfilled the prerequisites for the Celestial Brawler; all that was left to do was to complete a quest.

"I should go find the location where I can get the quest."

I exited the swamps and traveled to Necropolis, where the quest would be issued.

I reached the city after some time and entered it, and began to wander around the streets.

'According to the system's information, once I obtained the brawler class, leveled it to level 15 and entered the Necropolis. If I come across a kid of the demon race, I must save him and follow him to his home, where his father will offer me the quest for the Celestial Brawler.'

After a half-hour of wandering, I noticed a demon race kid fleeing from a few demons.

'Maybe, he is the one.'

I decided to help him. I followed them till they came to an alley. The child came to a halt and turned to face its pursuers.

Demon 1: "You should return the bread, you brat."

One of the demons spoke with anger.

Demon: "It's the fourth time you stole bread from us. We let you go the first two times, but this time you will pay for your crime."

Kid: "No! I can't give the bread back. My dad is sick; please, I will pay you the prize when I have the money. Please, let me go."

The demons didn't listen to the kid, and one of them raised his hand to strike the kid, but before he could do so, I attacked from behind, killing him immediately. Before the other demon could react, I killed him too.

This startled the kid. Because they were NPCs in a city, their bodies did not vanish into the motes of light.

Kid: "What have you done!"

Momonga: "I hit them because they were about to hit you."

Kid: "You didn't have to kill them!. Now the guards are going to find them."

The kid began to panic, and I decided to comfort him.

Momonga: "Don't worry, they are not dead, just knocked out. Let's get out of here first. I'll escort you to your house."

Of course, I lied to the kid; it was one of the conditions to learn the class.

We were conversing using dialogue boxes. Even though AI has evolved significantly, talks with NPCs were still conducted via Dialogue boxes.

The kid nodded, and we left the alley. After a few minutes of minutes, we reached a run-down shack.

Kid: "This is my house; thank you for escorting me."

The kid nodded and bowed his head.

Momonga: "Pay it no mind."

A slender man left the shack and saw us before he could respond. He dashed towards me, smashing his head against the road and profusely apologizing.

Man: "Please forgive him! Please forgive him!"

It took the kid a while to calm the man; after thanking me for saving his kid's life, he invited me into the shack.

After a few minutes of conversation, the man started to talk about his father. According to the man, his father was a famous martial artist, but he died due to old age. Before dying, he passed his will to me.

Man: "His wish was for our family to learn his most prized class, the class that allowed him to become powerful. Unfortunately, neither myself nor my son has the aptitude to learn that class. His wish also said; if no one in the family could learn it, if we found someone who is strong and kind-hearted, we can give him a chance to learn that class."

The man turned toward me and spoke.

Man: "Mister, you are strong. Tell me; if you would be willing to learn that class. Before you agree, I must warn you, you may die during it. Are you still willing to learn the class?"
