Chapter 16: Yggdrasil XIV

Chapter 16: Yggdrasil XIV

I won the Preliminary Round without any difficulty. The upcoming rounds would shift to one-on-one matches.

I won the Elite rounds too. These rounds had many sub-rounds.

It was the next day, and My opponent was a female paladin called Yelena. This match was the Quarterfinal.

After this, the 8 Players who won the Quarterfinals of their respective Colosseum would be matched against each other.

~Time Skip~

After half an hour of waiting, I was called for my match.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the final match of this Colosseum. The winner of this match would be matched against the other winners of the other Colosseums. Let's welcome our challengers."

We both entered the arena from opposite sides.

"On the right side, we have Player Momonga, a powerful Sword Master boasting a plethora of powerful classes in his repertoire. He also holds the title for the most kills in this Tournament."

"And on the left, we have the Player Yelena, a powerful Paladin, boasting high Defence, offense, and the ability to cast spells. She also holds the title for dealing the most damage in the Tournament."

"Both are powerful Players; let us see who will win this match. Let the game begin!!"

Even after the start of the match, I didn't move from my location. Yelena boasted a very high Physical Defence state. Making it possible for her to remain unscathed after receiving attacks. I had seen some of her matches, and she managed to tank most hits.

Usually, paladins were considered a notch below the warriors. Whereas warriors were offensive frontliners, paladins, on the other hand, took on the role of defensive frontliners.

Even though she was a paladin, she was able to do a lot of damage to her opponents.

Momonga: 'Maybe she has a hidden class.'

I didn't want to risk it. Anyone who had a hidden class was to be taken seriously.

So, I let her start the encounter by making the first move.

Yelena: "So we finaly meet, Momonga."

Momonga: "Do I know you?"

Somehow my question made her mad, evident by her shouting at me.

Yelena: "WHAT!? YOU DON'T REMEMBER ME?" New novel chaptš¯’†rs are published on novel(b)in(.)com

Momonga: 'Do I know her? Maybe a past party member? Or maybe someone I killed during dungeon raids?'

Judging by her tone, it was most likely the latter. I decided to confirm my suspicion.

Momonga: "Why the hostility? We are having a civil match, so let's enjoy ourselves."

Saying this, I took a stance to attack her.

Yelena: "So you really don't remember, huh. You were the one who killed my entire clan and took all our stuff!"

Shouting this, she fired a spell at me. I dodged it by jumping to the side.

Then something clicked in my mind.

Momonga: 'Maybe she's part of that streamer's clan. What was their name? I think its name was the 'Red Bears.''

I decided to check my suspicion.

Momonga: "Are you a member of the Red Bears?"

Yelena: "So you finally remembered, huh."

Momonga: 'Bingo.'

Momonga: "Oh, now I understand the hostility."

Yelena: "If you understand, then come at me."

She started casting blessings on herself. Not wanting her to become even more powerful, I lunged at her.

Momonga: "Don't mind if I do."

Swiftly closing the distance, I engaged her in close combat, our swords clashing in a symphony of steel. Her skill was evident as she expertly parried my strikes and countered with calculated precision.

Momonga: "Take this!"

I activated "Blade Dance," a skill from my 'Weapon King' job class, which allowed me to deliver a rapid flurry of slashes. Yelena tanked most of the strikes. However, one strike found its mark, causing her to stagger momentarily.

Seizing the opportunity, I followed up with "Rising Fury," a skill from my 'Weapon Emperor' job class, a powerful overhead swing that aimed to break her defenses.

But she managed to tank my hit and created a brief opening for her to counter. She launched a swift combination of sword strikes, each blow executed with precision.

Yelena: "Such poultry tricks."

I deftly blocked most of her swings, but some struck me.

[HP: 100 -> 93]

[HP: 93 -> 86]

Our clash of swords continued, the intensity escalating as we exchanged blows. Sensing an opportunity, I activated "Aegis Breaker," a skill from the 'Weapon God' job class, which focused on shattering an opponent's guard.

The force of the strike sent shockwaves through Yelena's defense, leaving her momentarily vulnerable. I seized the advantage, following up with calculated strikes to exploit her openings.

Momonga: "You call this a poultry trick?"

Yelena: "Hump!"

Yelena, undeterred, used a spell; that surrounded her with a protective barrier. It was a testament to her adaptability, utilizing her hybrid abilities to maintain an advantage in the battle.

Momonga: 'She is a good fighter. Alas, she is against me.'

It wasn't my arrogance; I still had a few tricks up my sleeves.

I launched into swift feints and lunges, testing her reactions and chipping away at her defenses.

As the battle raged, I sustained heavy damage. My HP was 59, and I only had 2 HP recovery potions left. Yelena, on the other hand, knew some healing spells.

I used "Last Stand," a skill from my 'Origin Vampire' racial class, that heightened my focus and strength in dire moments. Each strike became more precise, and my movements more calculated. Yelena responded in kind, her every move reflecting her experience and prowess.

In a decisive moment, I executed "Raging Tempest," a skill from my 'Weapon Saint' job class, that unleashed a whirlwind of strikes upon my opponent. The onslaught was relentless, forcing Yelena to defend.

Yelena: 'Shit! He is too strong! Maybe I misjudged his abilities.'

Despite her formidable abilities, Yelena's defenses began to show signs of wear; seizing the opportunity, I initiated a sequence of quick strikes, each blow calculated to exploit her vulnerabilities.

The battle raged on; I had already consumed all my HP recovery potions.

I decided to end the match with a single decisive attack.

Momonga: "What do you say; should we end this match with one final attack."

Yelena: 'I don't have any more HP and MP recovery potions, and most of my skills are on cooldown.'

Yelena: "Fine by me. I will defeat you with this attack."

Momonga: "You are free to try."

Yelena: "Take this! My trump card!"

Before Yelena, an ethereal golden sword manifested and attacked me with calculated precision. But, due to my high Physical Defences, I was able to tank most of the damage.

[HP: 100 -> 70]

I executed "Sundering Strike," a skill from my 'Weapon Emperor' job class, that broke through the enemy's defenses and delivered a finishing blow. It took 90% of my HP, but it was a guaranteed hit.

[HP: 70 -> 7]

The strike connected, her defenses broke, and she died. That resulted in my victory.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, A VICTOR HAS EMERGED! PLAYER MOMONGA TRIUMPHS IN THIS EPIC ENCOUNTER!"

I exited the arena and returned to the waiting area.

~Scene Change~

After being defeated, Yelena was teleported out of the Colosseum.

Yelena: 'I lost!'

She appeared in a cave where her clanmates were waiting for her.

Ivan: "So you lost, huh?"

He spoke in a disappointed tone.

Yelena: "Yeah, I grossly underestimated his strength."

Mikhail: "Don't worry, sis. We'll get him at another time."

Vladik: "That bastard escaped once again."

Ivan: "Easy, Vlad. We'll get him one day."

Vlad: "Hump!"

Ivan shook his head and let out a sigh.

Ivan: "Let's leave- there isn't anything left for us to do."

~Momonga's POV~

Because the Tournament was being broadcasted to the entire world. Matches were held in different time brackets throughout the day.

And right now, the time bracket for Helheim's matches ended. The Semifinals were going to be held in the evening at 6:00 PM.

It was currently 2:00 PM, and I had some time to kill. Because the bracket ended, I was teleported out of the Coliseum back to my room in the inn. Most of the clan mates were watching the match of Touch Me.

I, too, decided to watch his match.

~Time Skip~

At 6:00 PM, I accepted the teleportation request and vanished into the motes of light. I appeared in the familiar waiting room. Excluding me, there were 7 other players. The template of the Semifinals was 2 matches per Player.

So, I had to play and win 2 matches to reach the Finals. After a few seconds, my opponent was revealed.

The Player who I was up against was a hand-to-hand named Mat. And My match was the first. We both entered the arena and nodded to each other.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the final match of this Colosseum. The winner of this match would be matched against the other winners of the other Colosseums. Let's welcome our challengers."

"On the right side, we have Player Momonga, a powerful Sword Master boasting a plethora of powerful classes in his repertoire."

"And on the left, we have the Player Mat, a powerful martial artist; boasting the highest Physical State state we have seen today."

"Without any further ado, let the game begin!!"

I haven't had the chance to watch his matches. So, I was going into this blind. For the first minute, we didn't move from our location.

He also varied me. After that standoff, I decided to make the first move.

I covered the distance between us and used "Blade Dance" on him. Mat attempted to evade my strikes, but my calculated assault left him little room to maneuver.

Amidst the clash, I observed his movements closely.

Momonga: 'Perhaps his agility isn't his strongest suit.'

As the "Blade Dance" ended, I tried to use another skill.

He, however, managed to evade it and retaliated with a series of rapid punches aimed at my midsection. Each attack was precise and controlled.

But due to his low agility, I evaded most of the punches.

[HP: 100 -> 90]

[HP: 90 -> 80]

Momonga: 'His Physical Attacks are no joke.'

Recognizing an opportunity to shift the tide, I used a skill called "Guardian's Gambit," targeting his balance with a powerful strike. The impact sent vibrations through his stance, briefly disrupting his footing.

Seizing this advantage, I pressed forward with a calculated combination of strikes, each blow designed to exploit his momentary lapse in defense.

Despite the blows I landed, his resilience was apparent. And he responded with a rapid series of strikes, aiming to overwhelm me with his relentless assault.

Our battle raged on, a clash of sword against hand.

Our battle continued for 7 minutes, at which point I decided to end it with a final strike. I used the same skill I used on Yelena.

"Sundering Strike!"

[HP: 85 -> 8]

The strike connected, his defenses broke, and he died. That resulted in my victory.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, A VICTOR HAS EMERGED! PLAYER MOMONGA TRIUMPHS IN THIS EPIC ENCOUNTER!"

I exited the arena and returned to the waiting area.
