Chapter 21: Desert viper
"3 is down!"
The grave news shocked the entire team, how could the goddess of melee battle fall, the captain was shocked at the sudden turn of events, he jumped down from the truck and activated his COM.
"We leave in three minutes, I need that chip and 3 back here stat!"
"Copy that sir" Raymond responded, he stood up and ran towards the semi conciouss Amelia, he picked her up and Carried her princess style while he ran at the highest speed he could with the weight he was bearing, the weight of an exo suit was no joke even as a alpha ranked soldier, he was at his limits.
The other soldiers fired at the raging rats which were rushing towards Raymond, both Raymond and the person he was carrying had killed many of their kin so they had to pay.
The first Gunner ran back to his truck and when he closed the truck he jumped, gripped the edge and flipped himself to the top, he darted to his seat and gripped his Gatling gun, the familiar feeling made him smile, he turned the muzzle to these raging rats whose numbers seemed endless with the cover of darkness.
"You want something don't you, well have this.... Hahahahaha!!!" He hollered and pressed the trigger, he handled the recoil perfectly as tongues of flames spilled out from the muzzle, the bullets tore the air as they raced towards the rats, sounds of flesh getting pierced rang continuously.
Raymond grunted while he ran, he turned back and saw the devastation caused by the six barreled Gatling gun. He smiled and ran as bullets swooshed past him Continuously, the rats couldn't reach Raymond as 5 had created a safe zone around Raymond, it became a slaughter zone as rats foolishly ran to their deaths.
Roland stared at 5 who was laughing maniacally and smiled, the other soldiers in silver exo- suits had entered their vehicles and drove to their position.
Raymond finally arrived while panting, he knelt on the ground and gasped, he removed his helm and staggered towards the truck as Amelia had been taken from him by other soldiers, he slumped on his seat and grabbed the water can a soldier gave him.
He poured it into his mouth with some streaming down his lips down to his chin and neck.
Amelia was laid on a stretcher and pushed into the third truck, Angel was panicking as she thought of what to do, there was no medic and Amelia's skin was pale white, her eyelids trembled occasionally, Amelia was in a critical situation and she was helpless.
"She is fine, the same metal is what's keeping her alive, hopefully we would arrive at the safe hold on time"
She heard Roland's deep voice, she nodded silently and followed Amelia into the third truck, the door was shut and the truck began moving.
Roland walked towards his vehicle while activated his COM "where are you"
"Two miles away"
"Then meet us on the way, we have a problem, 3 is in immediate need of medical help so we had to leave ahead of time" Roland explained.
"I understand sir, I'll catch up"
"Mmnn.." Roland nodded whilst opening the door of the first truck, he sat at the front seat as usual, the truck began to move and he brought out his case, he flicked the top and it opened, he took a cigarette, put it in his mouth and was about to light it when that driver suddenly coughed.
Roland faced him with raised eyebrows "we're in the red zone and the window can't be opened" the driver explained while avoiding Roland's growing intense gaze.
Roland turned and saw that the peacemaker didn't even have a window, it was made with a great ventilation system so there wasn't any need for a weakness like the window.
His face scrunched up and he turned to the driver "and why now, why didn't you tell me before I took the cigarette out, you!.... " He stopped talking and exhaled loudly.
"It doesn't even have a window so how were we supposed to "open" it" he scowled sarcastically.
He twisted his neck while trying to suppress his urge, he laid back and stared at the case intensely trying to burn the image of the brand into his brain, the driver gulped in fear, his gaze kept alternating between the road and Rolandd.
Maybe Roland will have an outburst and it would be better to take his chances with the red zone than face an angry Ronald in this enclosed vehicle.
"What are you doing? concentrate soldier!!" Roland yelled with furrowed brows and pressed lips, he had enough of today's problems.
"..Yes.. sir!" The driver stuttered with trembling hands.
"Stop shaking and hold that steering steadily!!"
Roland yelled while rubbing his forehead, today just wasn't his day.
"I've got a visual on you sir" Roland's COM beeped and he heard 1 voice.
"Great, inform me when you're close" Ronald said with a smile.
At an unspecified distance away, a hover bike raced with a high speed as it maneuvered past uneven paths and headed towards the disappearing dust at the distance.
1 accelerated and finally managed to see the silhouettes of the moving trucks, he felt relieved and smiled inwardly, suddenly alarms began blaring and he gazed at his screen.
A red dot was rapidly approaching and even with his speed it still closed the gap. n0ve(l)bi(n.)co/m
"Check the files, I want to know what kind of beast is that" 1 instructed his AI with a grim look.
The information on his screen began scrolling at an incredible speed, not even two seconds passed and it stopped at a name which shone with red light.
1 was shocked when he saw it, THE DESERT VIPER, the situation had gotten much more dangerous, the night viper is one of the most dangerous beasts in the deserts but it was rarely seen so its name was only in the red list, its real capabilities were enough to be ranked in the black list.
He increased his speed as the throttle released more zitro gas causing the blue flames under the bike to increase and his bike darted towards the military convoy.
1 was joyful that he used a zitro powered bike instead of the usual electrical powered one, the zitro gas was a newly found resource that was much better in vehicles than electricity, it didn't produce combustion and it's efficiency was double what both electricity and solar could do.
Solar had been outdated for close to a decade now, with the sun gone, solar power became useless.
The sands bulged in a zig zag shape as a huge creature made its way towards 1, he looked back and saw a huge bulge rushing towards him, it left a huge trail of scattered sand as it raced towards him.
1 frowned, he could not give this beast an opportunity to strike so he increased his speed once more, the speed limit entered the red level, but he didn't care, he had to reach the truck or he would meet his end.
He pressed a button at the handle and two attached guns came out of both sides of the bike "fire!" 1 growled with an icy gaze.
Flames spilled out and bullets sank into the fine yellow soil a few meters away from his bike, though the aim wasn't great it could at least hold off the beast for a while.
Soon he got closer to the truck and the last truck which was a peacemaker M2 opened its hatch and it had two sections as it opened and another metal plate slid down slightly touching the ground.
The humongous truck slowed down as 1 made one last dart towards the hatch, the viper stopped and sank back into the sand, it wasn't like other creatures that chased recklessly, it preferred a sure meal and 1 wasn't one.
He reached the hatch and moved into the vehicle, the hatch closed immediately and the protective glass covering him slid down, he came down and removed his helm, scattered his hair and grabbed the water can offered to him, the slightly chilled water was exactly what his patched throat needed.
"What's going on with three?" He inquired with furrowed brows, while sealing the water can.
"She's critically injured, she would be dead without the aid of the AI '' the soldier said wryly.
"How did she get injured?"
"Umm... From an explosion, she was hit by a shrapnel" another soldiers who stood close to the doors muttered and turned to the door, he opens it and walked out, the soldier who gave 1 the water can walked towards the door with 1 tailing behind him, when he crossed the door he turned and sealed it shut before climbing the short stairs and entering a different deck.
Here, soldiers were comfortably seated at their various seats, the truck was huge so there was space for them to walk through, 1 moved to the front part and sat while exhaling slowly.
While others were relaxed he knew this was just the beginning, the dark cyber organizations were now involved and they were much more dangerous than just facing brainless beasts.
