Chapter 29: Exam Part 3

Kaden approached the soul of the Rattler slowly as he was unsure of what to expect but regardless, he eventually made his way right in front of it after climbing part of the body.

"What are you doing up there?!" Emma asked confused.

"I'm becoming helpful," Kaden replied as he placed his hand on the floating soul.

[Would you like to make the Rattler part of your family?]

[Accept] [Decline]

Kaden pressed accept without hesitation and another screen popped up soon after.

[Rattler (Temporary) has joined the family.]

'What does it mean by temporary?' Kaden thought to himself.

Soon enough however the body of the Rattler gave off a dark glow and suddenly had a black smoke starting to surround the body which made Kaden panic slightly.

"Get off of there!" Sky shouted from below.

At the signal of Sky's yell, Kaden jumped off of the Rattler but he didn't realize just how tall it was. Thinking he was about to hurt himself; Kaden braced his legs for the ground but surprisingly instead of hitting the solid ground he landed right in the arms of someone else.

"Are you alright?" Sky asked with worry.

"Yes thank you." Kaden replied as he got out of her arms and then gave her a small hug of gratitude.

"Hehehe~" She murmured during the hug and when Kaden tried to break the hug she latched on once more for a few more moments before she would let go.

Kaden had no response for this and just smiled at her actions, "Hey love birds! Do all that later first we need to figure out why this ginormous snake just got covered in smoke!" Emma said breaking them out of their moment.

Kaden realized what he had done and blushed a little while Sky just stuck her tongue out, "I think the black smoke is due to me. Just wait a moment and you will see what I can do to help." He said slightly excited to see how his ability worked on the dead for the first time.

The group was confused by Kaden's words but decided to listen to him and keep watching the now black smoke-covered Rattler. After a few moments of watching it, the smoke began to clear off of the Rattler and one thing was obviously different. The original green on the Rattler was now a dark black with red lines all across its scales but there's also the Aces family tattoo right below its jaw.

"Woah! It looks cool but is it dead still?" Ken said approaching what he thought was a dead Rattler.

Once Ken inched his way closer to the Rattlers face he began poking it to see whether there was anything new about it besides its new colors and the tattoo but after a few pokes suddenly the eyes of the Rattler opened.

"IT'S ALIVE!?" Ken shouted as he ran back towards the group.

Everyone in the group went into a panic with everyone getting into their battle stance and those with weapons summoning their weapons.

"GET READY TO GO AGAIN!" Emma shouted from behind the frontline.

However, something happened that was way outside their expectations. The Rattler began slithering its way to the right of the group where Kaden was standing seemingly in wait for it.

"KADEN WATCH OUT!" Ashly yelled from the backline as she saw where the snake was heading.

Even Sky didn't realize that Kaden had left the ranks and it was too late to reach him and protect him from the oncoming Rattler. They all waited for his demise but it never came as when the Rattler got within a few feet of Kaden it suddenly stopped and coiled before leaning its head down towards Kaden almost in a bow or a sign of obedience. nove(l)bi(n.)com

"Good boy." Kaden said rubbing the Rattlers' head which made the end of its tail wag back and forth like a dog.

The entire group had their jaws drop as Kaden treated the previously menacing Rattler as a pet. Kaden was also ignoring the group as he was enjoying how the Rattler was acting like a little puppy.

'I never thought I would treat a snake bigger than two buses like a pet.' Kaden thought to himself with a smile as he also felt a connection between him and the Rattler that wasn't there when invited Sky to the family.

While Kaden was inside his own world the group finally made their way towards Kaden and was curious on how this situation came to be, "Why is the Rattler so tame towards you?" Sky said making her way back towards Kaden.

"It's part of my class. I can make the dead my allies." Kaden said leaving some parts of his abilities out since people such as Timmy were around.

Sky got close to the Rattler as well and began petting it alongside Kaden. Ashly also seemed to be curious about the Rattler and tried to get close to pet it but once she got within a small distance away from it the Rattler turned its head and gave her a menacing stare almost as if she took another step then she would be dead.

"Hey how come she can get close but I can't?" Ashly said confused and a little scared considering the size of the Rattler. When they killed it the first time it was asleep but now that it was awake and moving it intimidated her a little.

Kaden thought for a moment before realizing the issue, 'It's because they aren't a part of the family isn't it?' Kaden thought to himself.

Kaden then turned to the Rattler and thought of a solution, "Look boy. Those people over there are friends not enemies, ok?" He said as if he was talking to a human but strangely enough it seemed the Rattler understood and then stopped giving Ashly the stare.

It worked and Ashly then made her way towards the Rattler with the rest of the group and after a moment everyone was petting the Rattler, "So you can control it now?" Emma asked curiously.

"I believe so and it can also fight with us." Kaden answered. At this everyone was excited for the potential behind what the Rattler could do to boost their points in the exam.

While the group was beginning to get ready to hunt once more there were people behind the scenes watching this unfold from afar and wondering who this person was that could bring beasts back from the dead.
