Dark Berserker: Rise of the Forgotten Progenitor

Chapter 24: Battle of flames

Chapter 24: Battle of flames

Awoo! Awoo!

The wolves howled like they welcomed their king as the temperature rose drastically. From the forest, a flaming wolf emerged, reddish-orange flames burned on its back and even from the distance Cristian could feel its piercing flaming eyes.

"How is this possible?" Anna exclaimed whilst she trembled, the flames burning on the mighty beasts shining in her golden eyes, causing them to dilate.

Gasps filled the air as fear crept into the hearts of the soldiers, and Sheila spotted it in time. "Cristian, can you handle the fire wolf?" worry laced her tone, and her blue eyes gazed at him with hope for a positive answer.

"What level?" Cristian grit his teeth and pulled the dagger, causing blood to gush out, yet he steadied his gaze on Sheila.

At this moment, Cristian understood why he had this class. It was because he could feel his blood boil, the thrill of a battle, the blood. It made him both excited and focused. Cristian slowly prepped his mind on the battle against that mighty beast and at this moment, he paid no heed to Sheila's looks, for he had all the time in the world to conquer this beauty.

However, his actions alone made Sheila stunned. The man before her turned out to be more than a playboy.

Her eyes glowed as she looked at the beast. "Level 32," she gasped. Beasts were naturally stronger than humans and, despite being five levels ahead, their stats barely had any difference.

"Shit! I'm way lower than that." At this point, Cristian didn't see any point in hiding any longer when no one was really stronger than him with Sheila being equal in strength, but only when she had distance.

"Don't jest Cristian. Stop it from causing a massacre and I'll provide a platform to reduce its speed."

The moment Anna healed his wounds, she quickly retreated back to the walls and Cristian walked toward Sheila.

As she watched him approach, her heart rate sped up, and she shivered. "A platform? Why does this seem like-"

"It is!" Sheila lost control of her emotions and yelled. Her cheeks flushed, and she took deep breaths to calm down and her ample chest moved accordingly. Cristian felt baffled and took a step closer since he had no idea he caused her emotional disturbance.

He gave a light pat on her shoulder, causing her eyes to snap open. "Sheila, listen…" he paused as the Dark Lord sent the fire wolf towards them.

"I need you to concentrate. Our lives depend on this. Believe me when I say I'm still new to this kind of thing and I thought you were always better."

A blatant provocation. He decided not to use his class skill, especially when it concerned a woman he wanted to make his. "Go!" she pressed her palm on his coat and pushed him, causing him to take two steps back.

The runes on her body glowed brighter, and a diagram appeared in her eyes. But it still wasn't enough and Sheila knew that.

She folded her hand, leaving her index finger, and the tip glowed bright blue. As her finger trailed in the air, a diagram slowly formed.

"It's my turn then," Cristian stared at the ethereal beauty whose feet slowly left the ground and mused.

Dumping all his free stats points to strength. It shot up to a staggering number; 86! For his level, this was a massive sum.

Pushing his agility to the limits, Cristian bolted forwards with a speed, seven times faster than an average human!

Flickering through the battlefield, he left wolf corpses in his trial and the fire wolf left burnt human corpses.

However, when they were just ten meters away from clashing, Sheila completed the spell and a diagram encompassed the plain field. It glowed sky blue and two words left her lips "sky fall!"

Boom!

Many wolves and soldiers slammed to the ground as they felt an invisible beam pressing down on them. Cristian's knees trembled, but he was a lot stronger because of Burning Fury. The Rare sword gave him an extra 35+ strength, which was a massive upgrade.

This was the same skill Sheila used back then, but that one was a miniature one and she had laid it with a mana stone. It had been there long before Cristian arrived. This showed her level of vigilance.

Going as far as using a low-grade mana stone!

Sheila made sure she focused on the fire wolf and Cristian could see it struggle, but in a matter of a few seconds, the fire wolf adjusted and sped towards him though with a speed painfully slow to it.

Cristian shot a glance at Sheila and easily saw through her strong facade. She was drained and this spell would soon dissipate!

The tip of his great sword dug into the soil as he took large strides. Each step was deep and filled with purpose. The powerful beat of his heart resonated with his feet and his fingers tightened further around the hilt of Burning Fury.

The billowing heat from the incoming wolf made his fur coat wrinkle and his eyes dilate. As the gap got smaller and smaller, Cristian got faster.

And when they were close enough, his bearing changed. He bolted forward and leaped high. Mid-air, flames appeared on the blade and he slashed down.

The fire wolf struggled to dodge as it had also lunged, but Cristian's unpredicted move caught it off guard and a massive gash appeared on its face.

In their first clash, Cristian took an eye, and that made the fire beast furious. It opened its jaws and flames spurted out. The intense heat made Cristian sweat and his sweat dried up as the flames became intense.

The beast got more violent, causing him to dodge with his pitiful dodging skills. He swung his sword when a chance appeared, but the wolf easily evaded and it did so elegantly compared to his pitiful way of dodging.

Graa! Fwoosh!

The grass burned, turning the surroundings into a flaming zone, and the fire kept on spreading. He tilted his head and his eyes followed the gleaming claws of the violent beast that swooshed past his cheeks. In that same motion, he spun abruptly, and a gash appeared on the wolf's muscular foreleg.

Awoo!

It howled in pain and slammed against Cristian, sending him into the air. His rough landing was just the beginning as his coat instantly lit up in flames and it burned wildly due to the fur.

"So much for a Common ranked item," Cristian grumbled, stood up, and slashed upwards, taking the head of a dire wolf into the air. New novel chapt𝒆rs are published on novel(b)in(.)com

Blood drenched his white top, but he was already dirty, so Cristian didn't care. All that mattered was survival.

Suddenly, two more black-cloaked figures emerged from the flames and lunged forward with daggers. They assumed he would be clumsy since he used a great sword but this was a grave mistake.

Cristian held his sword close to his chest and when they arrived, he deflected the right man and whipped a deadly kick that connected to the neck of the left man.

The sound of bones snapping rang loudly, but Cristian had no time to waste, so he bore the punch from the man at his right and made a clean horizontal slash that took off the man's head.

The sight made him uncomfortable and in that moment, the fire wolf hiding in the flames emerged.
